Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus, (GVD) commonly known as Bloat, is a medical emergency. It is very important to recognize the signs early and seek medical treatment immediately. GDV occurs when the stomach becomes distended with air and then flips or rotates. If left untreated, the GDV does not allow blood to flow properly, and this can cause hypovolemia and shock. Unfortunately, this can lead to death if not seen by a veterinarian promptly.
